BrowLift

What is a BrowLift? A browlift is a procedure that restores a more youthful, refreshed look to the area above the eyes. This procedure corrects drooping brows and improves the horizontal lines and furrows that can make a person appear angry, sad or tired. In a browlift, the muscles and tissues that cause the furrowing or drooping are removed or altered to smooth the forehead, raise the eyebrows, and minimize frown lines.

How does a Browlift work? There are three different techniques that can be used to perform a Browlift: Direct, In-Direct and Endoscopic. All three techniques yield similar results, but the endoscopic browlift will result in smaller incisions and quicker recovery.

Unlike a traditional (In-direct) browlift that requires the one long coronal incision, an endoscopic browlift requires only a few short scalp incision (less than one inch long). An endoscope, which is a pencil like camera device connected to a television monitor, is inserted through one of the incisions, allowing the doctor to have a clear view of the muscle and tissue beneath the skin. Using another instrument inserted through a different incision, the forehead skin is lifted and the muscles and underlying tissues are removed or altered to produce a smoother appearance. When the lift is complete, the incisions are closed with stitches.

How should I prepare for a browlift? Once your surgery date is scheduled, you’ll be given specific instructions on how to prepare for the procedure. This will include guidelines on eating, drinking, smoking and taking or avoiding certain medications and vitamins. Carefully following these instructions will help your surgery go more smoothly. You will also need to arrange for someone to drive you home immediately following the surgery and look after you for the first 24-48 hours.

What should I expect after a browlift? The immediate post-operative experience will vary depending on if the patient has undergone a traditional browlift, or the less invasive endoscopic browlift. Most endoscopic browlift patients report less swelling, less bruising and less pain. Either way, you will be prescribed pain medications to help control any discomfort, as headaches are a common side effect of this procedure.

Patients should plan on taking it easy for the first week after surgery and should avoid any strenuous activity, even it you feel okay. Most patients can return to work in a week to ten days. Most of the visible signs of surgery should fade completely within about three weeks.
